Inputs

Student input is distance in feet. The simulator calculates trolley position percentage automatically.
Optional / Advanced Inputs
Teaching geometry only; not a full catenary, elasticity, pretension, temperature, or rope-self-weight calculation.

Math & Teaching Notes

  • Free-running equilibrium: load-side tension and equal left/right static tag-line tension are solved simultaneously from ΣFx = 0 and ΣFy = 0.
  • Sequential friction: top-pulley loss is applied from the load side to the top-to-heel segment; heel-pulley loss is then applied to the heel-to-hoist segment.
  • Dedicated trolley-tag review: static tag-line multipliers over 2.00x require Special Lift Review. The straight-tag 10°/70° triggers do not apply to this arrangement.
  • Prescribed sag: the sag input defines teaching geometry. It is not a full catenary, rope-elasticity, pretension, self-weight, or temperature model.
  • Separate structural loads: top-pulley and static-line tower reactions remain separate unless both act through one common attachment assembly or structural point.
  • Model boundary: a restrained, braked, clamped, or friction-controlled trolley requires another measured or engineered constraint.
  • Forces Are Not Hidden.

11.5.4 Wind Limitations: The nominal wind speed considered for standard load chart values is 30 mph at the elevation of the gin pole. Lifts in nominal wind speeds above 30 mph shall be considered as special engineered lifts in accordance with the ANSI/TIA-322-A standard with applicable evaluation and special lift parameter conditions applied.

Capacity: Manufacturer-rated capacities and sling WLLs for the actual hitch configuration are required. Utilization at 80% or greater is shown as a capacity review; utilization at 100% or greater is shown as Danger.
